Maplewood Ave at North Pond Portsmouth NH

This view has always inspired me. I must have done a half dozen attempts painting this scene in oil paint. One successful painting is hanging at Mast Cove Gallery. This attempt was done in watercolor. Here I used the foreground shore line to create a directional line to take your eye to the focal point. Although it seems to be almost in the middle of the picture , it doesn't bother me.
The placement of the telephone pole keeps your eye from going off the canvas. The shadow of the bridge points the way to the center of interest.

Dennis, this is truly exquisite. My favorite of all of your pieces. Oh to live in this beautiful little place surrounded by old tall trees and babbling creeks. I find myself wondering if there is a mill on this tributary?...

Thanks Autumn... nope no mill here.
This area is tidal, flowing from the Piscataqua River...and very strong currents.
